Summary of clip: The scene opens with James Bond diving to a sunken British Naval ship (HMS Devonshire) to investigate the scene and try to figure out why the vessel was attacked. Once down there, he runs into Wai Lin who is searching for the same answers as James. When they both realize that the ship is still shifting in the water and that they are in danger, they proceed to quickly resurface.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: This is a good clip to introduce the concept of gas emboli and Caisson disease (the Bends).

Suggestions to Teachers:

1. At the end of this scene, we see James Bond and Wai Lin quickly resurfacing from a deep-sea dive.

Have students propose a possible complication in the circulatory system as a result of this quick assent

2. Caisson Disease (The Bends) is observed in deep-sea divers who return to the surface too rapidly. Describe the mechanism by which the circulation is obstructed.

a. What are some of the symptoms seen in this disease?

3. Describe other common forms of emboli.
