Summary of clip: The scene opens at a family barbeque. Lance Harbor (the star QB of the high school football team) is playing catch with his dad. Lance's dad claims that his boy is the best QB around. Mr. Moxon, father of James Vanderbeedk's character, claims his boy is better than Lance. They decide that the boys should have a competition of trying to knock a can off of their father's heads with a football. Lance succeeds, but when it's Moxon's turn, he thinks the game is foolish. After his dad provokes him, Moxon throws the ball; a fast, tight spiral, that hits his dad right in the nose.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: This is a good clip to introduce the concept of conservation of angular momentum.

Suggestions to Teachers:

1. Suggested questions for students when viewing the clip:

a. Why does a football travel further if thrown as a spiral instead of end-over-end?

2. Have students explain the concept of momentum, so they can associate their previous knowledge to the new topic of angular momentum.

3. Have students come up with other everyday examples of angular momentum being conserved.
