Suggestions to teachers:

1. Suggested questions for students when viewing the clip:

a. Notice the tornado as it moves through the field. Can you identify the various parts of the tornado (debris cloud, wall cloud, funnel cloud, etc.)?

b. In this scene the camera pans down to the truck's speedometer. Bill is driving more than 75 mph to catch up to the tornado. How fast do tornadoes usually travel?

c. The tornado in this clip completely demolished a barn and even picked up a tractor and a truck, carrying them quite a distance from their original position. How fast do you think the tornado is spinning to pick up such heavy objects?

2. Have students research Tornado Alley, the area of the U.S. where tornadoes strike most often. What states are in Tornado Alley? How many tornadoes occur in the U.S. each year?

3. Students can research what conditions are necessary for a tornado to form. What time of the year do tornadoes usually strike? Do other countries experience tornadoes?
