Summary of clip: This clip is the conclusion to a very elaborate scheme to rob a series of casinos in Las Vegas. The owner, Benedict, discovers that a video tape of a supposed robbery-in-progress was created in a replica of the vault prior to the robbery attempt, but only after he has lost $150 million. The way he realizes this is by asking the security camera operator to zoom in on the floor. The word "Bellagio" does not appear, indicating that the vault is fake, because "Bellagio" was installed the previous Tuesday.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: This clip demonstrates the importance of careful observations, not just in a science environment, but in general. Poor Benedict might have saved himself some major bucks if he had been quick enough to notice the subtle difference. However, by noticing such a small detail, he is able to uncover the ruse.
Suggestions to teachers:

1. Suggested questions for students when viewing the clip:

a. How does Benedict uncover the plot by Ocean and his accomplices?

b. How do you feel observation helps you in your daily life?

c. Why is observation so critical in science? In everyday life?

d. What impact does observation play in the "real world"? Give a example of an event that careful observation would have prevented.

2. If you were using this clip as an introduction to observation, you might want to have students work in teams on an extension activity, such as observing a burning candle. This can lead into a discussion on the differences between qualitative and quantitative observations.
