Location of clip: (DVD)

Play Flickclip Here

Summary of clip: A chemical toilet from an RV was recently emptied in the street sewer system, creating a hazardous and flammable gas.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: Sewers are not places for disposal of hazardous and/or biological waste. They exist for storm water drainages purposes and are directly discharged into water bodies like rivers and oceans.
Suggestions to teachers:

Questions to ask after viewing:
Why did the gas coming from the sewer ignite?
Why do people associate the sewer with a place to dump waste?
Do you know why it is a problem to empty an RV toilet into a storm water drainage system?
This clip can be shown to start a discussion about the environmental problem of people disposing of things other than clean water down the sewers. This can lead into a discussion about watersheds and where the sewer water ends up being discharged. The teacher could bring in maps of the sewers in the town and show where they are discharged.
