Summary of clip: Milo is a boy who secretly found himself on the planet Mars when he followed the spaceship that kidnapped his mom. The Martians are stealing Earth's moms to help raise their youth. He is discovered by Gribble, another human living on Mars, who is showing him around his living space. Gribble notices that Milo is having trouble walking in low gravity so he gives him a weight belt. This helps Milo stay on the ground and avoid falling into the trash fire.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: On Earth, the force of gravity pulls you down while the force of the floor against your feet is pushing you up keeping you on the ground. In space, there is zero gravity. Even though you have the same mass and gravitational pull, you feel weightless because there is nothing in space that is fixed to Earth to counter balance the force of gravity. Mars has about 38% of Earth’s gravity. This will give the feeling of something in between Earth and space.
Suggestions to teachers:

1. Suggested questions for students:

Why is Milo having trouble walking and staying on the ground?

What does Gribble give him that helps him stay on the ground?

Why don’t we need a weight belt to walk on Earth?

2. Define the difference between mass and weight.

3. Experiment with various object of different masses and how gravity affects them differently.
