Summary of clip: Robin Williams returns home after 26 years of isolation in the jungle. Even though he has been alone in an uncivilized environment for most of his life, he has no language problem and few behavior changes.

Connection of flickclip to the concept:As part of a learning cycle, this could be an engaging way to show the dramatic developmental changes a human goes through from becoming a child to an adult. This clip can also engage the students in learning about what role our environment, compared to the jungle, has in shaping adult behavior.
Suggestions to teachers:
1. Suggested questions for students when viewing the clip:

a. What were some of the physiological and psychological changes Robin Williams had after 26 years in the jungle?

b. If someone disappeared for 26 years to live in a jungle, do you think this is an accurate depiction of how he would act when he returned?

c. What impact would a lack of human contact have on a person for such a long time? What would happen if a person spent that much time with jungle animals and plants?

2. For a possible assessment, you could have the students write about the role of their environment in their own development. Or they can write about how their life will be in 26 years and base it partly on their own environment.

3. Students could write about how Robin Williams would have developed differently if other environments besides the jungle were chosen.

4. Students could also research behavior of animals that live in different environments to see what its effects are.
