Summary of clip: The scene opens with Salla (Indiana Jones' friend) driving his car through a crowded street in a small village in a Middle Eastern country. There are several people walking about town dressed in full-length robes. Some of the people are wearing white robes...some are wearing black robes.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: This is a great clip to initiate a discussion on the role of convection as a cooling mechanism.

Suggestions to Teachers:

1. Suggested questions for students when viewing the clip:

a. Have students note that people are wearing different color robes. In terms of radiation (absorption and reflection), what would be the best color to wear in the desert?

b. Why, then, did you notice some people wearing black robes?

c. What if you were told that the robes were open at the bottom, could you now explain why?

d. If students are still unable to explain why, ask them to explain convection. They should now be able to make the connection.
