Summary of clip: Gru, a villain know for stealing, has adopted three little girls to help him get into his enemy fortress by selling their cookies. However, he has started to enjoy these little girls and has just returned from the amusement park. His scientist partner is getting concerned that these children may be a distraction to their next plan to steal the moon. He has successfully stolen the shrink machine and is proposing his plan to shrink and steal the moon to his boss. He has several distractions from the girls during his presentation and is fired as a villain.

Connection of flickclip to the concept: Stealing the moon is outrageously unrealistic but can bring about a discussion about the moon and how it affects the Earth. The moon keeps the Earth stable on its axis of rotation and provides us with seasons and ocean tides.
Suggestions to teachers:

1. Suggested questions for students:

Does the moon stay in place or move?

How long does it take for the moon to orbit around the Earth?

How would the Earth be different if we did not have a moon?

2. Discuss moon phases and have students sketch and chart the phases they see each night for a month.

3. Have students conduct research on how the moon impacts ocean tides.

4. Have students explore the myth behind the "full moon" and the supposed strange behaviors that occur due to the full moon. Actual scientific research shows that no significant occurrences happen due to a full moon.
