After two female hikers who happened to be menstruating were attacked and killed by grizzly bears in 1967, many warnings came out advising women not to hike in regions where bears live while menstruating. Is this an example of correlation vs. causation?
This topic can lead into a physiology and reproduction research project where each student or team of students focuses on a mammal of their choice and answers the question: can the males smell the menstruation of the females?
